Tapeworms and Basins

This is the head of a maggot as seen with a scanning electron microscope.

Spring is definitely here. Time spent in the studio(s) brings with it guilt.

Finding an astronomical number of sowbugs in the backyard this year.
These isopods seem larger than usual.

I've been looking at scanning electron microscope photographs of tapeworm mouth parts.

Delightful creatures!

Also had recent correspondence with Neil McClelland - Harcourt House's esteemed Artist in Residence (2009-10). I was attempting to find a couple of very specific reproductions of paintings by Israeli artist Avigdor Arikha, who died in 2010. They reminded me of Neil's work for a few reasons. Very simple, direct still lifes: one of a pair of gently squeezed tubes of oil paint, and another of a studio sink. I could find neither image - but I found a lovely depiction of a resting cello and a table top vegetable arrangement.

Above and below: Avigdor Arikha

Studio sinks are not uncommon subjects for painters.

This post is unapologetically 'stream of consciousness' ....running down the drain......
